Working Groups

Part of the mission of OSFA is to educate decision makers in the U.S. Federal government about the advantages of using free and open source software.  In order to do that, we have to be able to provide accurate and trustworthy information in many different areas.  We fully believe that "no one is as smart as everyone," which is why we need your help

Our working groups are divided by subject area, so that you can share what you know about a particular area with other experts in your field.  Even if you don't consider yourself a subject matter expert, you can still help us gather data, craft PR messages, or provide technical support in something that interests you.  Above all, please realize that the working groups are intended to WORK.  They aren't just mailing lists.  There are goals and deliverables expected of each group, although each group has the ability to set timelines and goals that they feel are realistic and achievable.

To sign up for a working group, you must first become a member of Open Source for America. Once you're logged into the website, you can sign up for a group and become connected to others who share your interest.  You will then have access to the group's wiki and mailing list archives.  Click here to become a member.  If you are already a member, see the list below for more information about the groups.

You can become a member of the groups by subscribing to mailing lists here.

Government Employees:  Please read this page before signing up for a workgroup.

Projects

Projects are important tasks which are not policy-oriented but which are required for OSFA to accomplish its goals. If you have limited time for discussion, but want to help with something practical, one of our projects may be for you.
